Padel shirt sleeve regulations

If you are a padel enthusiast and participate in official tournaments, it is important to know that the rules do not allow the use of singlets or sleeveless shirts in matches.
This rule may surprise many players accustomed to more “summery” sportswear, but it has very specific motivations linked to uniformity and sporting decorum.

In this article we explain what the official rules provide, Which clothes to choose to be compliant and how a technical outfit with short or long-sleeved t-shirts can make the difference.

What the official padel rules say

The FIP (International Padel Federation) regulations state that:

"Every player must wear appropriate athletic attire, including sleeved t-shirts or polo shirts. Tank tops are not permitted during official competitions."

This means that:

  • The Short or long-sleeved t-shirts are mandatory
  • They cannot be used sleeveless tennis, running or basketball shirts
  • Even thecoordinated team clothing must respect this rule

NoteIn amateur tournaments, the rule can be more flexible, but in official contexts (FIP tournaments, FITP tournaments, etc.) it is essential to comply.

Which padel shirts should you choose?

To be in compliance, the ideal is to opt for shirts designed specifically for padel:

Short-sleeved T-shirt

  • Maximum freedom of movement
  • Ideal for the warmer months
  • Perfect for training or outdoor matches

Long-sleeved T-shirt

  • Thermal protection for indoors or cool evenings
  • Elegant and regulatory
  • Ideal for tournaments

Make sure they are made in breathable technical fabric, with ergonomic cut and possibly equipped with modern features such as the NFC Smart Fit patch, as in the Padel ITA collection.

H2: And the shorts?

The regulation does not impose rigid constraints on shorts, but the use of:

  • Models technical sportsmen, with pockets and elastic band
  • Knee length or slightly above
  • Simple design that matches the shirt

Why choose a coordinated outfit?

A complete set designed as a set (t-shirt + shorts):

  • It avoids aesthetic "mismatch" problems
  • It's more comfortable and functional
  • It makes your look more professional, especially in competition
  • Respect all official clothing regulations
